Just got my Raleigh PD application and I'm gonna put it in soon. Looking to move later to Miami PD, but how would i not fall into the trap of being corrupt? Rephrasing it, what could I do or anyone do to be the change departments need?

Depends. Take it step by step. If you get accepted, then do your best. You may find that Raleigh is a good department to work for. It's a city with big crimes just like Miami-Dade County area, so you can transfer to various other departments, like vice, narc, investigation, community policing, schools, etc.
Sometimes, things aren't necessarily better than they are on the surface. The cost of living may be higher in Miami, so on a cop salary, you may be better off in the Raleigh-Durham area.
If you want to have a good police career, then listen to your instincts and don't get lured into doing something stupid.

one of my JA professors who was commissioned by the federal government to figure out ways to reduce police corruption said you can only do it through two ways, increased pay and increased education requirements. :manny:

if you score too high on the IQ test you can't become a cop...:ohhh:

It's the opposite, they weed out the applicants who score low.

If you score high on the IQ test, chances are you're not going to want to be a cop

imo every leo eventually has to get their hands dirty. it's the nature of the beast. law enforcement isn't supposed to be cut and dry always play by the rules. they would never get their job done if they did to be honest. criminals know the system too well and have too many connections in the system.

...superiors put you in positions where you have to choose the lesser of two evils....your peers will leave you hanging and with your life in the balance if you don't play the game....you're constantly faced with circumstances where abusing your 'power' can give you an advantage....criminals become easy targets (easy come ups) for you to abuse your power since "everyone else does it".

imo...if you want to change police corruption, don't join the police. :manny:
