Thats good for you but how many black people are you employing?
I agree tech is important and I have no prob getting experience from work:hubie::ehh: That's not a point of contention.. as a matter of fact before starting my website all of my work had been in desktop dev. Java,C++,Assembly,Uscript(for game dev), etc etc It was when they put me on M.S. share point integration that I had to learn PHP, HTML5,SQL, etc. I used that knowledge as a jump off for building my own.

What I'm getting at is that when I was ass out I dug into my skill set(yes some acquired via work) to build something for myself. I actually had a friend who does gov contracts as a javascript dev in Montgomery (maxwell airforce base) and New Orleans (Navy) who was like shyt,:patrice: if you doing all that web dev you should do what I'm doing.:ehh:

He threw me an 8 month contract listing in my town for Northrup Grumman who has an I.T. node at the research park in Auburn AL on the campus. They needed someone to work with hadoop servers ....I assumed visualizing data coming off the servers so that end users could do "something":yeshrug: with it.

While I appreciate the contract notice :ehh: I'm not sitting around waiting for it either  which is basically my point :hubie:

:ehh:
I'll bite

:jbhmm:
Curious ...and why do you ask?
:hubie:
I don't want to assume

It pertains to the article. Specifically how many people are you employing in Silicon Valley? Brehette created an app to solve a problem concerning lack of representation in San Francisco tech companies, hopefully allowing qualified Blacks to make inroads in the world's largest tech corporations and startups(many founded and staffed by those from large companies). I suspect the app can be used for different sectors and areas looking to improve workplace diversity. Your personal accomplishments are admirable; just don't see it resolves the greater issue of applicants who completed school being overlooked due to industry gender and race bias. Even working with startups, I noticed how VCs approached black/female founders differently than males/Whites/Asians. And there is more to life than programming as there are different positions in SDLC.

Great, thanks for the clarity :tu: I didn't want to go off on a tangent.

With that said "how many people are you(am i) employing in Silicon Valley?" is not the point of contention.:ehh: My point of contention is...

Conclusion:
You don't need tons of money to do anything in software all you need is a half decent computer, time, and talent.
I'm sure she is way more talented then me, hell I still need to finish my fukk'n senior year of software engineering.
When I hear people in the software field complain about hiring I'm like :mindblown: ...cause in the grand scale of things it cost peanuts to write software and put out product.

Now:whoa: I get that not everyone has an idea that they can work on. But still :scust: ...network, find a small project you believe in, and jump on the team:ufdup:
In addition to looking for "regular" employment:hubie:......:jbhmm:

This isn't even a radical position I'm taking:hubie: ...I think it's quite measured actually. :jbhmm: I've already said...

I honestly don't see where the issue lies:patrice:
it's not like i'm out here saying fukk whitey and his money:damn:...I'm out dis bytch ahhh!!!

:pachaha:

Now in terms of how many black people I employ.... :jbhmm:

I'll do this two ways

1. I employ multiple black people at a competitive salary with mobility to move around as there interests develop etc etc.
OK, I'm then a proof of concept:yeshrug:

2. I employ zero black people and damn near can't keep the lights on for my damn self.
Ok, that just re-enforces my point:yeshrug: ...what point? :ohhh:

I'm just advocating for those of us in the field to have our own lane within our community so that employment in the valley is simply one option out of many other valid ones(which it already is truthfully). To be completely selfish for a moment it is quite debilitating to see talented African Americans i'd love to work with get "brain drained" out of the community(talent pool) or preoccupied "chasing the rainbow" when I'd love to sit down and work with them.

Almost missed that one there. Bruh we can have an entire thread on "venture capitalist" / funding issues:francis: Thats a serious problem:snoop: ....I'm actually scared of the types of ad campaigns I put out because I'm afraid of being overwhelmed with orders and not being able to scale up fast enough to deal with it. These things all come from a lack of initial funding. Measured growth and building I'm good:hubie: God forbid I have a spike though:sadcam: ...If only I had a small nest egg:patrice: Which is why we need that internal industry

So you haven't created a viable solution to a big problem? This brehette has. Many of us who are in the field that work with multimillion dollar contracts and created companies that employ people with benefits, such as Home out of DC whose founder worked at EDS/HP and took his experience to found a minority owned business. Has launched the careers of a lot of brehs/brehettes in 15 years and probably wouldn't have been that successful without the corporate experience. Coming up with the next frivolous app is cool but a crap shoot and people can't tinker on open source projects on github for practice when they can be foot on the ground in a company surrounded by experience. Again I think the Blendoor is admirable if put to use. Time will tell. No one is getting brain drained. Most people who started their own ideas used experience from previous employers including Steve Wozniack.
