Was watching a stand of his and he's more of a "heckler checker" than anything.

Thing about it though is a argument can be made for alot of people in the forefront of the comedy world.

Like for example Tiffany Haddish isn't funny at all.

The answer to thread is entertainment industry politics. Guy was on the tour either as a King, host, or opening act.
Studio or producer replaced him with Hughley, who had a tv show on the air at the time. They were hedging their bets/investment by placing a tv star with name recognition.

To be honest at that moment, none of them were kings and the biggest in their fields at that moment. But it did do a lot for their marketing

As stand up comedians, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence and Damon Wayans were probably the 4 who could claim kings at that moment. The 4 on the kings of comedy were moreso 2nd tier as far as being a draw.
