Can someone explain to me what was so great about Mike Awesome?

It was Heyman's presentation of dude. He was booked as a unstoppable monster and he was believable . On top of that he was one of the first tall dudes that had a expanded moveset. It's not fair to watch him with 2022 eyes you have to remember back in 99 there weren't many big men flying on main stream wrestling.

Exactly this. Until he got to WCW, he wasn't really cutting promos, or in character segments, he just showed up, best the shyt out of people, and rolled out.

Double on the big guy with mobility thing. Back in the early to late 90s, really the peak of agility/acrobatics for big men was Undertaker and Kane.

Dude was a walking sack of "fukk your feelings". A true gladiator (no pun), that did not stopped until a wrestler is dead. Dude had it all: Strength, agility, and was okay with the gimmicks. Sadly he jobbed to Joey Styles commentary:picard:.

"HES A JUDAS AND HELP ECW TO DIE":damn:

Mick Foley: "Nope, Heyman's checks that did the Bankhead Bounce did that chief but okay:heh:"

first correct reply.

This dude in 2022 in a company like AEW would be money. Get him a manager to talk and let the neckbeards go crazy.

Spinoff: Mike Awesome vs Lance Archer :russ::russ::russ:

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Watching Mike Awesome vs. Spike Dudley at ECW GAC 2000 was one of my guilty pleasures back in the day. Idk why...but that match was just fun to watch. I haven't watched it in over a decade though, so maybe a rewatch is in order.

Paul Heyman did a tremendous job selling him. He had an unique skillset especially for the lower levels of wrestling. One of those NXT level studs like Keith Lee where they look great at a lower levels but he wasn't someone that translated well to the WWE main roster. I always found him to be a foundational piece of ECW with Sabu, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, New Jack, RVD, and Shane Douglas

As others said, the eay ECW pushed him and his unique moveset got him over big time for the era.

He'd be Ezekiel status in 2022
