I feel you. I don't see a problem fam. Especially if it's just a colloquial label. I haven't seen brown on any job applications or US census.

If it becomes confusing I guess latinos could op for the Spanish word for brown.

Honestly only people of European or African Ancestry get the color labels in a formal context, most others tend to get to use their nationality/ethnic identifier. We can argue "brown" was always a casual term being that Hispanics/Latinos who are not Black or White have that as their indicator. But to that point in the same instance South Asians adopted the Brown label, they could adopt the Black label lol as there are many as dark or darker than us. So it adds a humorous element of "I'll be anything but a nikka" lol. I`m being lighthearted but yeah

Because I`m now seeing South Asians use it when at least "here" it was used for Latinos who are Non Black and Non white.

So should South Asians now be grouped with said Latinos? Is it the catch all for people who are not of [majority] African, European, or East Asian ancestry? This is also excluding "indigenous" people of the Americas too.
Grouped by whom?
And why?

I`m not asking them to claim anything. I am asking in the context of the USA if two "groups" of people are claiming something, are they now one group or does the term need to be reexamined.
It describes their skin tone and that's it.

When filling out a census they still claim Asian, Hispanic, etc.

Idk why y'all always over complicate things lol.

They're also called desi

Brown just means hispanic

Desi is "Someone of the Indian Subcontinent" so it has a specific meaning tied to a land mass. Brown is just a color and to my earlier point even if used casually, Latinos who are not Black or White were already using it.

And the answer is no because when you ask someone what ethnicity they are the answer isn't brown.

Again, y'all complicate shyt for no God damn reason lol.

I've never heard an Arab call themselves brown. Only Arab or Middle Eastern. The South Asian thing is something fairly recent from my observation.

Well you've been living under a rock then. They have been calling themselves that for about 20 years now, especially with the Millennials who are 1st generation Americans with foreign parents
