Worked last year with Cam and Tebow. Working this year with RG3.

The NFL is a copycat and gimmicky league anyway. This shyt the Patriots run is inspired by Oregon. I'm not sure we'll see many schemes last for 3+ years going forward so it working for a year or two is proof enough for me. I do wonder about the future of it tho.

The Pats have been running that Spread Offense before Chip Kelly got to Oregon

I think its because in the traditional option wishbone/i formation option they say the quarterback would get hit every play and it would be too dangerous. But with all of these formations and variations quarterback gets hit less than pocket passers from what I can tell

he's talking about the hurry up that they've been running alot of this year. It's been inspired by Oregon's offense or so they say.

It's because of the use of the read option as opposed to the speed and triple option. In the latter two the qb pushes the play wide to the outside drawing the end/inebacker/safety to him and pitches to the running back/receiver at the last second. This will get your qb fukked up in the nfl. Read option has one of the tackles pulling allowing the defensive end to go unblocked and choose to either tackle the qb or the rb. Qb has to read the end and if the defensive end crashes the rb then the qb pulls the ball back and has room to run. If executed correctly the qb doesn't get hit or at least has a chance to run and protect himself.

04 Beli sent McD down to Florida to learn the spread from Urban. Took them till 07 to fully implement it.. That is how Beli became close to Meyer.

Chip was just named OC to Oregon when the pats started to run the spread. Tho The Pats connect with Chip goes back to his time at NHU.

It is not so much the hurry up, as it is plays per game. If you watch Oregon, it is about plays.

And con tray to popular belief, Oregon's O is based around running the ball. It is not really a gimmick O(Tho anyone who has watched a few Oregon games knows this).

The success of Chip Kelly's Oregon Ducks offense is more familiar than it seems - Grantland

It is all about plays over time of possession. The change is philosophy, not hurry up. IE:Time of possession vs plays run per game..

If that makes sense(I am rambling).. :yeshrug:

What's the future of it? People say that Cam suffered this year because defenses "figured it out". But what is there to figure out, its a read and react offense. The O is always in the drivers seat.

Even though it's a R&R offense, EVERYTHING eventually gets figured out and limited due to defensive exploration. It's all determined on how fast the league catches on and the former adjusts; repeat of cycle. There'll always be a future for a x-option offense, simply because it maximizes the physical traits and abilities of the ever-evolving athlete that takes the snaps. A similar scenario's running-parallel in the NBA with the changing of the PG and the equal dual-threat (pass and shoot) they share with the Newton-type QB (pass and run) and the ability to competently freelance between the two. shyt is just simply mirroring it's own evolution-trend.

The cycle formulates again when there's a power shift - individual e.g = Rose against Heat 11/12 playoffs and Newton 12/13 regular season.
