Can someone explain to me how the "option" alluva sudden started working in the NFL?

For the longest black qb's weren't given a shot to play qb because of the logic that an option based offense wouldn't work in the NFL.

The past few years have proved that logic wrong. Call it gimmicky if you want but that shyt works.

Why did this happen? Did it only take for a coach and OC to say "fukk it" and give it a legit try?

What's the future of it? People say that Cam suffered this year because defenses "figured it out". But what is there to figure out, its a read and react offense. The O is always in the drivers seat.

I'd say it's because people finally got their heads out of their asses and started to tailor they're offensive gameplans toward the talent that they had.

If Titans and Falcons were willing to do this when they had Vick and Young there'd probably be a totally different story about their careers.

Your QB has to be able to pass effectively for it to work in the NFL. Tebow only was effective on deep balls but he should that if you got somebody who could pass and run, a read option offense COULD have some success

Mainly because the read option is newly introduced as compared to the speed or triple option which takes waaaay too long to develop. Read option is quicker which is why it never worked, and qbs are running it before they even get to the nfl, so it leads to young qbs having success in it.

The NFL is a copycat and gimmicky league anyway. This shyt the Patriots run is inspired by Oregon. I'm not sure we'll see many schemes last for 3+ years going forward so it working for a year or two is proof enough for me. I do wonder about the future of it tho.

meh, broncos just ran the option because of tebows limited skillset at qb

the only legit ones are cam and rg3...and cams is the only 'real' option as far shyt goes. and plenty of people are complaining about it in carolina.

like Ive said, give it time. rg3 prolly wont be as dominant as he was this year just because defenses will adjust to him.

Cam and RG3 can make all the throws. The option makes the game easier for them in this early part of their careers... sort of like a way to transition into the league kind of thing.

Plus they have good RBs on their rosters so the fakes are pretty lethal.

It can work...and RG3 is a great guy for it, bcause even if he wasnt that quick/athletic, i feel like he could be a legitimate pocket passer

RG3 needs to get on that Russel Wilson gameplan tho, and learn how to not take hits...save that for the playoffs breh
