I forgot that this is TheColi where posters often operate in extremes.
Where in my post did you get the idea that someone needed a "PHD" to speak on a subject at least
somewhat competently ?

Joey badAss and Lupe Fiasco have both disappointed me when given a position to speak publicly.
They're great rappers, excellent in that specific skillset but they've shown themselves to be very
lacking in understanding certain topics.

I mean right now we've got a thread going where Joey said something extremely ignorant, something
someone even casually interested in these topics would guffaw at because it was just so...wrong.

Being a great rapper does not necessarily mean outside of that, you're "Smart".
It's the same for sports stars, actors, comedians and anyone else who gets to casually represent
"Black People" on a national stage.
I don't think that @dora_da_destroyer was necessarily disagreeing with you.

It's impossible to be fake deep about a topic that directly concerns yourself. If you've been incarcerated and experienced racial profiling, false imprisonment, trumped up charges, etc. then you're addressing the prison industrial complex in a real way by addressing yourself. If you grew up without a father because he did a 15 year bid your entire childhood, talking about growing up without a father is addressing the prison industrial complex in a real way without ever having been to jail yourself.

Conversely, talking directly about the existence of the prison industrial complex and how terrible it is while having no personal stake in it can still be moving if you're addressing it in a way that's true to yourself. It becomes corny when the way you address a topic comes off as not being true to your own voice, ESPECIALLY when you try to speak for others.
Post after prolific post from you in this thread Breh :salute:

I'd also ask, are people's definition for deep, something that hits them emotionally or something that delves deeply into a subject?
that's definitely one version of deep but not the one i'm asking about, the "fake deep" i see tends to be an attack on intellect, touching certain subjects, mentioning topics that aren't considered superficial (partying, drugs, women, lifestyle)

I can't take post like this serious.

The people who would dap this would then go in another thread and shyt on Kodak Black, Young Thug and Kevin Gates even though all of them fall into similar upbringings and have distinctive voices with insightful commentary and stories to tell.

Yall are so dishonest lol.

I think that has more to do with the "anti-mainstream" movement in Hip Hop that picked up in the late 90s that carried through the entire 2000s. There was an outburst of anti-materialism in the Rhymesayers/Rawkus Records/Def Jux/Stones Throw circle which in retrospect was kind of :mjpls: given that the majority of the loudest voices on that "real hip hop" hype were white and middle class. They painted themselves as traditionalists continuing in the vein of the Native Tongues but really they were more punk rock rappers than anything.

I think the "fake deep" segment you're referring to is specifically in reaction to the "real hip hop" crowd.

I'm asking why you are committed to a dogma of black inferiority that doesn't match reality. You are on this thread denying a black middle class even exists when its been the largest single block of blacks for the last 10 years, even though it is shrinking. I'm asking what is behind your commitment to feelings and ideals that aren't reality.

Yes most blacks don't live in urban areas. Non-blacks make of the majority of inhabitants in the US living in urban areas. No, Most Black People Don’t Live in Poverty—or Inner Cities
No poor financial management isn't a sign of poverty, its a sign of poor financial management. Elon Musk has declared bankruptcy twice, unable to pay creditors, you think he is living in poverty? If you do, again you show your ignorance of what you are talking about, "fake deep"
Again you are projecting your own mindset

Nowhere in any of my posts did I say black people are inferior

That's clearly how YOU feel though

Cool, just like you've been deflecting and trying to change the topic from Kendrick's sub-par bars /shrug

Once again, YOU were the first to get emotional and mention "black inferiority" so just remember that while I get back to the topic

You have me mixed up with someone else, I never cared are argued about Kendrick's lyrics. I made a point specifically about the claim of Rick Ross speaking for the average black being from the hood and growing up in poverty.

Again if you want to converse beyond a superficial level, you have to read and put in the work

because the idea is to convince rubes who obviously aren't elevated that they know more than they do.

A song like this will do more for the hood than some dude rapping about generically sourced social topics to score points with the "I listen to this so people think I'm smart" crowd

Man I mess with Ross for this song. He gets props from me for pushing this. We need more of it :salute:

It is the objection to the conscious rap that gets propped up by hiphop heads when its nothing more than surface level acknowledgements of social injustisces
I believe you said in another thread that Nas' I Gave You Power was surface level :scust:
