The chief traders of slaves in West Africa included the Oyo empire (Yoruba), Kong Empire, Kingdom of Benin,Kingdom of Fouta Djallon, Kingdom of Fouta Tooro, Kingdom of Koya, Kingdom of Khasso, Kingdom of Kaabu, Fante Confederacy, Ashanti Confederacy, and the kingdom of Dahomey. Prior to the slave trade with Europeans & North Africans most of these tribes had ritual killings of those captured in wars with neighboring tribes, but slaves became so profitable that even those guilty of criminal acts were simply sold as slaves.
The above mentioned tribes made war with & raided the other tribes to capture the slaves they sold Europeans & North Africans.
