Where are you getting that info from? When you have a few thousands slaves per ship, and you know many will not survive the voyage, I can't understand what the point of this would be.

And as we all know, many African kings kept their own slaves from various conquered tribes, and they provided many slaves to the Portuguese, so how could the Portuguese even be sure where those slaves were coming from.
