Alright, Im thinking about what university I want to attend. My first choice would be Stanford, and I'm thinking to myself that even with a 4.0 GPA I wouldn't be so confident in getting it. So looking at my 3.474 :patrice: Im feeling like that shyt is trash, And im regretting my laziness because I havent really been trying to get a good GPA because my high school shyt was like at 1.5, so anything more than a 3.0 was great to me. Now im a lil older, and I wish I would have tried to get As in all my classes, I could have if I put the time in, but i've been doing the bare minimum. I will be ale to bring it up to a 3.6 maybe a 3.7 if I finish off the next year and a half with A's.

Even then I feel like thats low, so Can extracurricular activities help me out, i've been involved in a couple clubs Vice-President for a couple Treasure for another. I've study abroad in Central American, and if everything goes well I will having another abroad trip to learn Spanish in Spain. After the spain trip I will be at a high level of Spanish, and I will be at at least level 5 for my spanish once I apply...I will also have a few photography classes out of the way when it's time to apply. And I will be President of a club before I transfer also (hopefully)

Also I might be doing an internship at USD working in their chem lab.

Will this shyt help out in getting into a good school, should I give up hope :damn:

Advice?

Everyone has extra curriculars, everyone has a 4.0 or higher. Writing ability plays a large determining factor currently. Can you express complex thoughts through writing? Thats what they want to see.

I would assume that they, especially th chem lab, can help in forecasting you as a potential member of academia and the intelligentsia, to the acceptance committees.

:camby:Your shyt reads like a college's wet dream. If you happen to be rejected by one of the most prestigious colleges in the nation it doesnt matter, you won.

Do that, and work on getting great recommendation letters from anyone you can. You favorites, the most liked, who knows who will write them. I hate to say it this way, but kiss ass as much as you can... whatever they will accept (whatever the app process will accept, letters, community service, interviews) , take that and run with it as much as you can. Best of luck :salute:

Extracurriculars do help in the process. I think one of the best things that you can do in a situation where you don't have a 4.0 is to be interesting, and activities outside of schoolwork show that you are. I went to a school that is consistently in the top 20 for undergrad, while getting rejected by schools that weren't even close in national ranking. I had about a 3.7 but I was in a few clubs and co-captain in basketball.

At times it can be a toss up who accepts you, but get into that 3.7 range and you should be good. Just don't get discouraged if you don't go to Stanford because college always ends up being what YOU make it. Ranking looks nice but it is not the deciding factor in the rest of your life. I've seen a lot of folks come out of schools not even in the top 50 and end up with great careers (if that's your concern).

Don't be afraid to go somewhere different than what you are used to either. I moved almost all the way across the country to get my degree. Learned more about life and people than staying local and I think I had much more fun. Just make sure that you are in a college near/in a large city or metro area (as opposed to a college town), so you can get some balance in your experiences.

Be a minority, give them a pity story and ride that affirmative action train into your lucrative future. Something about being the first in your family with a high school education. It will appeal to the generosity of a cac and allow him to sleep well at night feeling absolved of the sins of his fathers by helping grow a rose out of the concrete. Whoop whoop.

There's hope even tho you hit me with the :camby:. :salute: I need all of the motivation I can get.
Depends what you mean by "good school". Very remote chance of getting into Stanford.
I know, I think they accept less than 1% of the transfer applications. I got a long and hard road ahead. thanks for bringing me back to reality :to:

Most of my professors love me, I dont think I will have a problem with that, thanks tho I have two professors in mind already. Im going to start doing community service tho I haven't thought about that.

Thanks yeah I know, my friends friend got into Berkly or some other good school with a 3.2, but didnt get into SDSU.

I do want to stay on cali, so I will apply to Stanford, UCLA, CalTech, SDSU, USD, ucsd, Berkly, USC and a few more I think Ima hit up M.I.T too, why not :yeshrug:

I am not too worried about pay, but I do want to get into a good school, because it seems like everybody in my fam looks to me like I have a bright future, i've been told twice this last year that im an inspiration from people I know back when in the day, and a couple teachers said have made a point to single me out in class as somebody they see doing great things. Idk it's crazy for me cuz I took an extra year to finish HS :sadcam:, and none of my friends graduated . idk shyt made me feel special, plus Stanford is close enough to my raiders. Part of me wants to get into a prestigious school that my family can be proud of.:to: I know thats kind of shallow.

Stanford is the hot university in California, so it is very hard to get into. You would have a better chance getting into USC, UCLA or even Cal with that GPA. Very competitive because all of the current movers and shakers are coming out of Stanford, just as many as the Ivies. Extra-Curricular activities(especially sports)would help you with the GPA that you have. Like others have said your essays and LOR's(Letter of Recommendations) will make or break you. If you don't like writing, then you might as well not go to college and pick up a trade.

Prestige isn't everything. "Cream rises to the top." You'll have to network harder but you can be just as successful with UC davis degree with a Stanford Degree. If you're good, someone will want you on their team.

Sure everything helps, you want to focus on things that show leadership, and you want your lor to come from community leaders not just your teachers, you did not mention your standardized test scores, your gpa is barely decent but a 90 percentile in standardized testing will definitely put you over the top

Sorry, breh. Had to do it. I've been through it up through Ph.D. applications. Learned a lot throughout the process and have learned it's better to be realistic, so you don't get soul crushed and you save money.

I was :to: when I was rejected by Harvard and Yale for my Ph.D.
