I Know Smooth Operator, Ain't no half steppin. Later Count Macula.

What are his top 5 tracks?

Is he a goat? And why if so?

Did he fall off? If so, why?

I remember seeing a trailer for a documentary saying how things didn't pop off business wise for him and I think he may have been a sex addict and that derailed him. Something about him dealing with alot of women and throwing him off.

What's his place in hip hop history?

Long Live The Kane classic. I went back to it after it's time and still loved it. Only heard "Ain't No Half Steppin'" prior to that.

"Young, Black and Gifted" is my favorite song of Kane's not on his first album.

He's a GOAT but honestly just his first 2 albums are classic/great.

legacy.................one of the 3 kings that ushered in the golden era of hip hop...rakim, and krs also held the crowns

kane was revised, updated version of grand master caz.....and his influence on rappers after him is clear as day to me..........style,wordplay,etc

he's in the top ten of most people who were alive to hear his peak

was heavily influenced by 70s soul music and blaxploitation flicks.............supremely raw and sharp lyricist but smooth at the same time.....he SANG the chorus to a song on his first album (people forget)

combo of raw and smooth gave him male and female fans............

he was banging so many wives and girlfriends that people created a false rumor that he had aids, so that their girls would be afraid to be his groupies

But catering more to the smooth side( and forgetting to balance it out with rawness) is what lead to him falling off.........wearing purple bullfighter outfits on camera , releasing duets with older R&B legends, rumored to be doing suspect shyt in Madonna's secret sex book................all signaled the end for Kane's male audience

my top 5 kane songs

symphony (verse)
ain't no halfstepping
wrath of kane (b side to I'll take you there)
smooth operator
young gifted and black

1,3rd albums are great...album #2 was a classic

to me kane is a top 10 rapper

Okay thank you. I can tell you know the deal and I needed to hear that from someone who really knows.

Can someone please clarify this to me -
The original Mount Rushmore of Rap is
1. Krs One
2. Rakim
3. Kool G Rap
4. Big Daddy Kane

Correct? I saw it mentioned before. Is that is the consensus.

If fans can please add more to this on Kane.

I assume this song pumped in cars driving through New York in 1988?
If so - fukking phenomenal!
The instrumental holds up in 2020, as does the flow and lyric patterns.

Jesus Christ. Hearing this at 38 is different then at 7. As a man, this song is so fukking impressive!

Please give it a new listen now!

The above song from 1998 is perfect, shows love to Raekwon, Shyheim and more and talks business.

Unfortunately that album was not a commercial success.

And the label folded shortly after it's release.

It shows how even if music is dope - if a strong business machine isn't behind a project it can flip.

This also why Jay Z is King. Most of his releases sold millions. Which was and is very difficult to do. Very.

Kane produced that track.

Was this a great album?

Based on that track it sounds dope.

He also released albums consistently - each year for a while.

Then he just stopped in 1998.

fukking why?

Kool Keith released albums like a machine.
