I'm indifferent to this :manny:

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. If you an artist tryna get on, flood the streets with that pure raw :steviej: It worked for Lil Wayne :obama:

Then I look at Charles Hamilton & Papoose. CH released like 11 mixtapes every year for 4 years straight :scusthov: Papoose did the same, 6 mixtapes a year full of the wackest punchlines known to man :snoop:

I think its all about songs really. Tyga was releasing 4 mixtapes that year. Yet all it took was one song to put his ass on top. Rack City started off as a mixtape song tho. Same thing can be said with Future all of his major hits were all on mixtapes.

It just depends on what type of artist you are or you are trying to be. The Weeknd himself dropped 3 mixtapes. But its really songs like "What You Need" "Coming Down" and "Crew Love" that made him a star.

from the artists perspective hell yeah. u should release 2-4 mixtapes and when your buzzing enough drop an album. and if u aint buzzing after 4 mixtapes it might be time to get a job.

from my point of view... no. keep the free music going :eat:

at one point in time, there was like 500 different lil wayne mixtapes...and no two were exactly alike.

it didn't actually matter for Wayne, his buzz was just that massive

Crooked I had a big buzz, and all he'd put out were mixtapes...and after awhile we stopped caring cause the album was never coming

Yea its kinda like a double-edged sword. On one hand its saturating the shyt out of "hiphop". On other hand we as the consumer are just :eat: at all the free shyt. There's a higher propensity for whacker shyt to be released but also for dope shyt as well so you just delete the whack, keep the dope, rinse & repeat. But as a fan of hiphop I would rather there not be this overstock of mixtapes especially these mixtapes that are basically just promo albums. Cause when you finally get the album (Wiz, 2chainz, JCole, Big Sean) the shyt dont sound near as good as what was on the mixtape. (I would have thrown KRITS name in there too but I know the sampling issue was why his album was a dud)

exactly how i feel. its like mixtapes have become albums over the past 10 years. i want mixtapes to be left over tracks from the album sessions.
they put the best songs on mixtapes and then the album comes and its like :beli:

rick ross is the perfect example. if he would put together the best of rich forever & GFID it woulda been contender for aoty. but now we got a good mixtape and an ok album. when it shoulda been a classic album and a whatever mixtape.

THE GOAT's take time to craft their songs.. and make them as high quality as possible..

IF a song aint quality enough to release on retail.. it shouldnt be released

NAS
JAY
EM

quality >>> quantity

this is the BIGGEST reason why hip-hop has falen off quality wise... .. theres NO FILTER to weed out the bullshyt..

you got all these artist releasing 50-100 songs a year... ("fast food")

you got REAL ARTIST releasing 15-30 songs evey 2-3 years ("gourmet" /"fine dining")
