Came to my first African church this morning... It's been almost 3 hours

We're watching a livestream and I'm still not sure of the local pastor is gonna give a sermon afterward A lot of the kids were being loud and crying and the pastor's wife got up like control ya kids or go outside, but in my mind I was thinking "TURN UP!!! "

Man, fukk that. No church service has any business being over an hour to an hour and a half long. Just enough time to sing welcome songs, pray, make the announcements, pass around the collection plate, get to the sermon (which shouldn't be any longer than 30 minutes), and then dismiss everyone. 3-5 hours for a single service is insane.

I stopped going to church as soon as I was able to make the decision not to go, and I haven't felt the need to go back since.

I didn't get dragged. I'm invited all the time and sometimes I go. I didn't realize it was the first Sunday though and I didn't wanna reneg

I tell women straight (because it’s only them who invite me) that I have no interest on spending my Sunday’s hearing cover versions of the same book, in an overcrowded venue.

To each their own but I’ve served my time for 16 years.

Haitian churches are the same. I don’t miss leaving my families church at all.

Back in the day I would be at church at 11 am and not leave till 9 pm.

10 am - bible class

11 am - 3pm: church

5pm to 7pm - choir rehearsal

7pm to 9pm - night service.
