Well if the refs who are expected to protect the players weren't doing their jobs, a player is expected to protect themselves. That's what Cam did with that kick.

The raider defender wrapped Cam up, pushed him back a good 5 yards and drove him into the ground and the ref was literally standing right next to them and no flag was thrown
