What makes it so much better than every other show? I watched season 1 on netflix and thought it was kinda raw but not above and beyond tv in general

It was cool, but honestly it seemed like it could've ended after season one and be complete. Not to say there weren't many highlight moments, but it just felt like artificial extensions to a short story.

This. I loved the first season (probably one of my favorite seasons of a show ever) but everything after that just felt like more of the same.

I agree but you need to watch season 4 to end the main story...... season 5 - 7 was a cash crab and crap. The ending of season 4 should have ended the series.

Damn good show.
Yes it fell off a bit at the end, but compared to other premium shows that were airing during that period (Weeds, Entourage, Dexter), the fall off was no where near as steep. Some of the scenarios got too silly, but Hank was pretty much always interesting to follow (Mostly thanks to David Duchovny). Really like the sincere promotion of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll as well.
Crazy to think how much television has changed since just like 5 years ago. That era feels distant now.
Season 7 as a whole was definitely the worst. And Hank having some random loser kid was kind of disappointing (Although, given how much fukking he did and how his daughter acted, certainly made sense). But I actually liked the final confrontation between him and Karen. "Till the wheels fall off"...I didn't mind those characters, with the type of relationship they had, ending that way.
The fact that there was a time jump after 4 probably lends credence to the idea of that being a good ending. But I'm not sure if I like it as much thematically as the one we got.

I watched it in 2011, binge watch, and then maybe one season after that on Showtime. The first was near classic, Southern California lifestyle/comedy/light drama, and I if I remember right, the second is strong too. By season 4, it still was funny, but it lacked a lot of the heart and became more a silly parody almost than anything else. But, that first season was special, I would probably like it even more now, as I am much older, and gone through many more scenarios dating wise than I had when I was 25.

But when I do it has to be something that’s grabs my attention, I’m already on season 5 and I’m still addicted

Always had the worst daughter character (such an unattractive woman from two attractive people) and then the ugly kid Levon. So Hank is going to have two butt-ugly kids and not do DNA tests? Even though the moms are beautiful. FOH.
