NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
He really was rapping tho....We coined the phrase, and it's the language of hip hop...I'm not really caught up in the black/ white thing...I just enjoy the art....

There is something to what Lord Jamar said tho....about the soul in the bars...THAT is the essence of the art I love... these cats were just rhyming words, telling a story, no emotion behind them, nothing about their struggle or how they think...That's a huge difference...

Just cause I speak Russian, doesn't make me Russian...
Like I said..rhyming words over beats don't technically make it "rap" or "hip hop"...this has been going on forever..especially when it came to people who didn't know how to sing...

I
This is the night mail crossing the Border,
Bringing the cheque and the postal order,

Letters for the rich, letters for the poor,
The shop at the corner, the girl next door.

Pulling up Beattock, a steady climb:
The gradient's against her, but she's on time.

Past cotton-grass and moorland boulder
Shovelling white steam over her shoulder,

Snorting noisily as she passes
Silent miles of wind-bent grasses.

Birds turn their heads as she approaches,
Stare from bushes at her blank-faced coaches.

Sheep-dogs cannot turn her course;
They slumber on with paws across.

In the farm she passes no one wakes,
But a jug in a bedroom gently shakes.

II
Dawn freshens, Her climb is done.
Down towards Glasgow she descends,
Towards the steam tugs yelping down a glade of cranes
Towards the fields of apparatus, the furnaces
Set on the dark plain like gigantic chessmen.
All Scotland waits for her:
In dark glens, beside pale-green lochs
Men long for news.

III
Letters of thanks, letters from banks,
Letters of joy from girl and boy,
Receipted bills and invitations
To inspect new stock or to visit relations,
And applications for situations,
And timid lovers' declarations,
And gossip, gossip from all the nations,
News circumstantial, news financial,
Letters with holiday snaps to enlarge in,
Letters with faces scrawled on the margin, (Nas bit this)
Letters from uncles, cousins, and aunts,
Letters to Scotland from the South of France, (Hov bit this)
Letters of condolence to Highlands and Lowlands
Written on paper of every hue,
The pink, the violet, the white and the blue,
The chatty, the catty, the boring, the adoring,
The cold and official and the heart's outpouring,
Clever, stupid, short and long,
The typed and the printed and the spelt all wrong.

IV
Thousands are still asleep,
Dreaming of terrifying monsters
Or of friendly tea beside the band in Cranston's or Crawford's:

Asleep in working Glasgow, asleep in well-set Edinburgh,
Asleep in granite Aberdeen,
They continue their dreams,
But shall wake soon and hope for letters,
And none will hear the postman's knock
Without a quickening of the heart,
For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?

If people claim Rakim rapping and Gucci Mane rapping are in the same Hip Hop category, then the song @Wenzel Dashington posted is proof. Don't matter how the flow is... And lets not forget the African griots of rhyming over drums playing, thousands of years before slavery

Stop gasping for straws breh. White people didn't create anything in this world. Deal with it :mjlol:

Prove to me that thousands of years ago people were banging on drums and "rapping" over it. I've also read where there are colonies on Pluto. Point is reading shyt and actually hearing/seeing it are 2 different things.

Brehs the GOAT has been channeling Auden all along :whoo:

Auden:

Letters with faces scrawled on the margin,
Nas:
Writing in my book of rhymes, all the words past the margin

Auden:

About suffering they were never wrong,
The Old Masters; how well, they understood
Its human position; how it takes place
While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along;
Nas:
Born alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throne

Auden:

Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky
Nas:
I saw a dead flying through a broken sky
Auden:
All the arm-chair philosophers are false
Nas
School's where I learned they should be burned, it is poison
Auden:
To love another adds to the confusion
Nas
p*ssy kills!

So you're telling me the rap game Jackson Pollock was born in the 1800s? :mindblown:

I bet he was discussing flow patterns and bagging dimes with a young Picasso like it wasn't nothing! :win:

but that Talking Blues did start in Africa though.
But the slaves took it to America.
It just happened that the first rap recording was by a white guy even though the tradition came from africa. It wasn't called rap back than yet.
