Most of the people at Essence Fest are 40+ and are there to see acts like Raphael Saddiq and Anthony Hamilton. Nobody went to Essence Fest to see Busta Rhymes. He just needed to do his set and get off stage. Chastising the audience just makes him look bad.
I wouldn't say that.. I been to Essence fest at least 12 times. They be into all the acts its just older people are a little more chill wit it but will legit say Busta had a great performance. And the phone thing makes you stand still and record. See it all the time...
Now I will say if anybody has seen Busta perform in the last few years, he def aint as energetic as early on. He mostly just stands there and raps a million miles per hour as showmanship.

like when i saw kendrick last October, he was the closing act at one musicfest in atl. same situation, long hot day in the park. he didn't come out on some over hype shyt, just let the songs and the crowd speak for themselves. it was a perfect vibe.
but kendricks crowd really rock with him though, he could perform every song acapella and the crowd gonna sing for him.

He is there early, folks usually just chilling, I go all the time and the early acts don't get house. I can only remember one early act that had the crowd jumping and that was Charlie Wilson. He started off as an opening act, he did so good that the next year they moved him into later in the night and then he became a headliner.
