Jay-z is a 40 year old rich rapper. How artistic do y'all expect him to be

I'd argue that because he's in his mid 40s now, married, with a kid, and all the money in the world, he can take more chances now artistically than he could 10 or 15 years ago because he truly doesn't need music anymore. Now he should be at the point where he's doing it for the love of the game or "the sport" as he calls it. He's the same dude talking about how the game needs this and the game needs that and how hip hop wasn't inspiring him so he was dabbling more in the indie rock scene because those kids had the rebellion that hip hop lacked now..if that's how he truly feels, then put on for that. I can't speak for anyone else but when I speak about Jay, it's from the aspect of a fan of his music..I couldn't care less about his money because my last name isn't Carter

That's sound good in theory but what's his motivation. All he can rap about is what he sees on a daily basis. No one believes them crack cocaine raps anymore. He has nothing to rebel against.

Interesting rationalization right here...

You're basically saying that age and success kills artistic ambition and we should just accept that...

Thats one way to look at it... But wouldn't that make you as a fan of music want to promote the starving hungry artists for your own benefit?

I never once said he needs to rap about cocaine anymore, although he does to a ridiculous degree and its coming off as a parody of himself, but be dope at what you do talk about. My problem with Magna Carta and blueprint 3 is that he just sounds uninspired and isn't killing it the way he's shown he still can do from time to time. Rap is a mental thing, not physical like baseball or football or basketball where your knees start to go bad or your arm slows down..it's all about staying sharp and clearly Jay is still sharp..he's just lazy and to me, thats the biggest sin of all. don't waste my time when you're on that mic

in hindsight, jay shoulda stayed retired. he basically eating of his wife now which is embarrassing. his wife putting out classics and is in her phsical prime, yet this old ninja always hanging around in her videos and everyone like who is this old dude. if i were j, i would fall back for a few years. every sh!tty move jay has made would be justifiable if he was still bringing that heat. face facts. Jays last great album was 2001. Black album was almost great. since then he was been very poor, over saturating the market with his guest verses. i wish he still had the hunger like his wife and lil brother kanye had. as in, i need to make dope fukking music, not just sell. but he already secured his legacy and has nothing to fight for really except expanding his brand.

the only way jay will make dope music again is if white people stop fuxin with him. his verse on that new rick ross had 4 dope lines. if he could have dope lines like that for a full 16 and even better full songs and the impossibe, full albums. then j would be back. but oversaturating the market wth wack product and making PR blunders like Barneys and belafonte( i only say blunders cause i dont think j did anything wrong in either situation. belafonte is a legend and his moral weight is profound, but he making assumptions about people and then throwing them under the bus to white america and black america, jay had every right to tell that man he talking rubbish. and with barneys, i know yall want him to be like, fx barneys i am bouncing, but that is not using ya head, just emotion).

imho, jay need to go away and never come back until that music is unfukkwitable.
:whew:Boy if this isn't a hater, I don't know what is. nikka said jay is eating off beyonce

Whoever wrote this b.s colunm is full of shyt :camby:
Word.
JAY Z has always stood for one thing and one thing only and that is money. he has been tellin you this since his first album yet nikkaz is still surprised about it.
Nah, most rappers have that hustler shyt but they also give back or talk about being down for their squad. Taking all of Jay's lyrics more or less seriously than the next man doesn't make much sense. Give him as much criticism as you give the next man if you're going that route (but we know he gets way more). But being delusional is a guaranteed L. I mean seriously, they have really convinced themselves that based on their small circles and on this board that somehow generation Y doesn't heavily fukk with Jay-Z :dead: @Broletariat @SHAQAVELLI ...these people honestly believe that Jay-Z isn't a God to the vast majority of people in our age group. :russ:

I agree with Jay losing his touch with the public. I remember when he tried to sell t-shirts off the Occupy movement. :snoop:

Editing Nas into the article was petty though.

True and that's why its just a survey. A survey just polls a sample size that represents the entire population, but its not the entire population.
