Since he's talking about showing up for the older artists i woudn't even say this is true.... because they still get shows, their crowd just isn't the one who's showing up for the younger talent in the city. which isn't a bad thing.
LA specifically had a stretch where the old rappers refused to work with newer artists until they reached a point where it was beneficial for them to do so....so to expect the generation of fans who's rappers you ignored to show up for you doesn't make any sense.

Them dudes treated rap like a job too....They aren't just sitting around, they were constantly hopping on songs, doing shows and putting out music.
Pokey was still actively doing shows and on songs literally til the day he died.
Snoop, DJ Quik, MC Eiht, Dogg Pound, Mack 10, Warren G etc sell out shows in the L.A. area all the time.
