Yeah. I hate talking about it because it makes me angry but the whole public needs to familiarise themselves with how he got convicted.
Firstly Buju has been getting banned, losing gigs and therefore losing income because of the backlash to Boom Bye Bye, a song that's over 25 years old. So in a desperate time an informant, paid by the government to implicate drug offenders, approaches Buju offering to help him move some weight. This same informant has actually made millions of dollars(paid by the government) by implicating other drug lords. Eventually he gets Buju in the same room with some Coke, case closed he makes 50k for getting buju convicted.
The problem with this is that there is no prior evidence Buju ever sold drugs. They essentially invented a crime, paid someone money to get him implicated with that crime. Another black man convicted in the "war on drugs".
Buju is dumb for even entertaining dude, but he was in a desperate place. Now interest in his music is higher now so he should make some good money doing these shows, so it sort of worked out for him.
