That's not news, everyone knows winning wasn't the number one priority in going to LA. The #1 motive was doing what was best for him, his family, and his business ventures moving forward. It's not hard to come to that realization, but even close friends were putting it out there like Wade :

"I don’t really think the basketball decision of saying, ‘Oh, let me go team up with two All-Stars.’ I think at this point in his life, it’s more so of a lifestyle thing of where my family is going to be the most comfortable and where I’m going to be the most happiest at. Because basketball wise, he’s so great that he can bring along and take along whoever.”

If winning was the end all be all he would've figured out a way to make it work with Embiid & Simmons + who ever they could've added with the assets they used on Butler/Harris. Or he would've figured out a way to get to Houston with his boy and Harden.

He was at the point where killing himself just for a shot in the dark at beating GS wasn't worth it anymore, so he opted to make a quality of life move and figure out the roster later (which to LAs credit they've already done).
