Some people mention the success but don't mention the mistakes NBA GMs make when drafting upperclassmen versus Freshmen or Sophomores. It works both ways

Wesley Johnson (JR) & Evan Turner (JR) drafted ahead of Demarcus Cousins

Ekpe Udoh (JR) drafted ahead of Paul George (SO)

Jimmer Ferdette (SR) drafted ahead of Kahwi Leonard (SO)

Lazar Hayward (SR) over Lance Stephenson (FR)

Dexter Pittman (SR) drafted ahead of Hassan WhitesIde (FR)

Frank Kaminsky (SR) ahead of Myles Turner (FR)

Just to be clear, I meant a top 10 guy in the league while he's playing. Not top 10 ever...

I hope that was obvious.

I say this EVERY year but you guys really dont understand how important having a handle is for a wing player

He cant create for his self or others

He's a complimentary player who'll have to be set up

Nothing wrong with that, still a valuable player.....but superstar is a stretch

True. however, the difference is, unlike upperclassmen, Freshmen and sophmores will never drop in the draft boards solely due to their ages.

Being good at moving without the ball is as important as having a good handle for wings especially for pure shooters. Most shooting guards who have good handle tend to be ball dominant like James Haden, Joe Johnson, and Jamal Crawford. These type of players can only start in certain systems with point guards with special skill sets.

Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Reggie Miller, Kevin Martin, Korever, and JJ Riddikk all had good/great careers without having great handle. And you can easily plug them in any system.

TYL
reminds me a lot like DWade coming into the league....depending on his situation, he could get 20-25pts nightly in the league...6'4, solid build, play defense, can score from just about anywhere and can take over games.....

What happens magically between 19-22 that makes it so that you can't learn to bounce a ball into the floor? Dudes talk like you can better your handles. shyts not hard to do. It bewilders me how Simmons is going to magically gain depth perception, but buddy can't improve hand eye coordination. One is drastically harder to do than the other, but 3 years makes it plausible?

Breh I was literally going to make this exact same post.

When you're trying to decide if a guy is going to be a superstar, and they aren't there yet, you're trying to figure out if the guy has the drive to improve in areas of weakness. Do i think Buddy will be hungry enough to develop a handle? Yes, I do. That's the type of kid I think he is.
