Yeah, Brock vs Reem was really disheartening to watch. Watching it live, I kept wondering why it seemed like he was phoning it in and fighting so timid. Then the retirement speech came and I knew why. Two bouts of diverticulitis is going to take a huge toll mentally and change your priorities.

He did have way too many haters who were blinded to any talent he did have. That's the price you pay for playing the heel though... which certainly helped his bank account quite a bit.

People just loved holding "rassling" against him as tho he wasn't a decorated wrestler before he ever became a "rassler". As much as I like Randy Couture there was a part of me that enjoyed how mad it made people (sherdog) that a "fake wrestler" stopped an MMA legend via strikes on top of it.

Oh, I loved it. Watching Brock's rise was my favourite period in MMA and probably will be for a long time. I had friends who'd storm outta the bar in a huff after he'd win :heh: He was the real life version of that bully who'd stick nerd's heads in the toilet in high school. No one likes to see a guy like that win, haha.

I don't know if Frank will ever live down the beating he got at UFC 100 after all the shyt he talked. Though I'm sure the paycheque he got helped.

This was, hands down, the best part of Brock's UFC run. Just hilarious to see the empty-headed casuals and purists getting pissed over Brock taking guys out.

Side Note: Is is wrong of me to say that a guy that is the only person (and probably will be the only person ever) to be the WWE, IWGP Heavyweight and UFC Heavyweight Champion SPECTACULARLY failed to reach his potential anywhere? Because I really do feel that this is the case (Not sure that Brock cares though). @puppetmaster Your story doesn't exactly do anything to quell these feelings.

Dude is a legend IMO but somehow is the perfect case study of "what coulda been"

that's insane.

Him and Kurt Angle needed MMA to blow up about 5 years before it truly did, they'd have pillaged the sport.

The price of becoming well rounded is splitting that time up instead of focusing on one thing. Physically Brock could have probably been the best at nearly any sport he wanted to, but he chose to be a "nomad" per se and try everything. I definately think he was probably the most interesting and dynamic sports figure of the past decade without question.

Not since Mike Tyson has a person invoked such a reaction from people across all spectrums.

I agree.... but THEN we wouldn't have gotten two of the best athletes Pro Wrestling has ever seen. BOTH of their wrestling runs could qualify them for GOAT potential already.

Brock's run in the UFC wouldn't have been nearly as fun to watch had he not been a famous WWE superstar first.

He just would've been another guy like Mark Kerr that people would've enjoyed watching. It was the reputation as a "fake" fighter and the cocky attitude that stirred the fans up so much. Calling out the best of the best right away. Calling Tim Sylvia the swamp thing in his early UFC promos. Great stuff.

Even his biggest haters can never say that he took the easy road. Other than Min Soo Kim, he fought legit guys from start to finish. I still wonder how him and JDS woulda played out.

So true :lawd:

He mastered cocky heel aka "make money" in the WWE

Hong Man Choi got lucky to not fight Brock in his first fight. Brock was going to hurt that dude.

After watching Allistair's last fight, he was definitely on some "supplements" when he fought Brock :mjpls:

True, but a prickish guy is going to be a prickish guy no matter the environment. You don't think that Brock could've mastered heel promoing to an extent by being himself in MMA (which is what he was doing anyway)?

After seeing what Cain did to JDS, a healthy Brock vs. dos Santos could've been very, very interesting...

First punch/takedown would've won and the match would last no more than 3 minutes. Take that as you will.

Yeah, he may have been a prick-ish guy... but he'd still just be a guy.

A pro wrestler is the absolute antithesis of most MMA fans. At least the ones I read about on sherdog.

Most of em' were former pro wrestling fans turned MMA fans who seem HIGHLY bitter that "it was still real to them, dammit!" not too long ago

Yep. Cole was there too. Straight up monsters man.

He systematically snuffed Mir on the ground, even crazier when you consider he was getting quite ill by the time they fought. Brock really doesn't get the credit he deserves for what he did. Carwin was proof he can take a beating, Cain was just a bad style matchup and Overeem got ahold of him when he was pretty much a shell

Healthy I do think Brock woulda gotten to Reem first, put him on his back and kept him there like he did Herring.

I agree on ADCC, he'd have been interesting. just seemed like he was ready to be done with combat sports since he's been basically at it since childhood.

I heard Cole Konrad used to get the better of Brock when they would wrestle...any truth to that?
