This might get ugly. Theme of the article set aside, that tidbit included from the NY Times is scary.

How low WNBA salaries led to an American basketball superstar's detainment in Russia (msn.com)

According to The New York Times, Griner's arrest could be linked to a Russian effort "to create leverage for a potential prisoner exchange with the American government or a reduction in sanctions related to the [Ukraine] invasion." In the past, the Times' Jonathan Abrams continues in that same article, "Russia has been detaining and sentencing American citizens on what United States officials often say are trumped-up charges."
Damn Russians are going to use her as a political pawn :francis: I feel bad for her. She is going to stay in prison until our government settle for a deal that will favor the Russians. :francis:

The fact that she's been detained for 3 weeks and it just got out is some bs. Who or what can we offer them for her return? It'll be so wild if she's the reason why we have to pull up to Russia :ohhh:

Unfortunately, she's at the mercy of the Russia government, so there's nothing anyone can do really. She's not a high profile athlete and even if she was, there are other American citizens detained in Russia custody so she shouldn't have high priority over everyone else.
