rominent liquor executive told me Jay Z owned a piece of Armand de Brignac brand, along with Cattier and a company called Sovereign Brands. A wine distributor and a record executive confirmed this as well; one of my sources pegged the value of Jay Z’s stake at $50 million.

After Empire State of Mind came out in 2011, even Jay Z’s friend, marketing guru Steve Stoute, finally acknowledged that Jay Z had a financial interest in Armand de Brignac in his 2012 book The Tanning of America.

“We are proud to announce that Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company owned by the Berish family, has sold its interest in the Armand de Brignac (‘Ace of Spades’) Champagne brand to a new company led by the globally-renowned Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter,” the statement read

Is that like when he was head of that Barclay's consortium and it came out that he only had like a 1% stake? :jbhmm:

Who thought Ross owned bel aire its obvious he is a spokes person.

We been known puff aint own Ciroc, just like 50 with effen and countless other celebs

I dont understand the op's issue with dudes getting paid to market something. Ross getting a nice check so is 50, puff, etc etc

It's been known for the LONGEST that none of these rappers actually own the liquor they promote, they all say when asked that they're "brand ambassadors"

Hip-hop doesn't pay enough to spend the marketing dollars necessary to blow up to the level of a Ciroc/Henny/Grey Goose etc, remember rappers are putting up a massive front to the public

Puff & Ross actually have their own brands but none of yall have ever heard of it :mjlol:

E-40 & Birdman are doing really well tho

Most of these rappers are brand ambassadors. They are not on the board of directors where they can make decisions about management and other important decisions. I don't know whether they are shareholders (Are any of these companies publicly traded ?). There's nothing wrong with being a brand ambassador but I think people are more upset about the perception that these Black entertainers partly or fully own these companies and how that influence consumer decisions

I know I have made purchases purely based on support and supporting a Black owned business.

That’s what you think, but it’s not true. Jobs owned less than .5% of Apple. Gates owns less than 4% of $M. This is all public info but don’t let that stop your ducktales.

that's because millions of ppl own stock in the company, they still own more than anyone else, thus majority stockholder.

No, they're acting like it's an irrelevant thing, which it is. :gucci:
10 milly ain't irrelevant... 50 milly ain't irrelevant.. especially when it's being called irrelevant, by people whose entire family won't even sniff 1 million

i don't know about you, but i'd rather leave my children 1% of nets vs whatever irrelevant things we can afford to leave ours
