He was killing it all through '97 on the promos. Great work. Heel Bret during this era is godly. Some of the best heel work of all time. It was so great because he didn't even think he was a bad guy. He wasn't being evil just to be evil. He believed he had been screwed over and thought he was justified in his actions. Compelling shyt.

I was there live for this the crowd was in shock when it happened everyone was shyt felt so real. I remember WWF contacted the Carrier Dome about having WM 15 there but they got turned down because they were to edgy

Bret was on FIRE in 97. Arguably his best year ever, he even made that point in his book. Why did WCW screw up his push so badly? Looking at WCW's roster in 98' they could've legit put WWF out of business with the right booking.

97 was the year I became a full on stan of wrestling..I rode with bret until that WM 13 match though....when the blood started pouring down Austin's face!

That Bret Hart and Steve Austin fued was one of the greatest. That Austin promo for their first time fighting each other at survivor Serious was hilarious, and they had some great matches.



Bret was on fire with the anti-american work also.

I was there too. I remember actually hating Bret Hart and Canada during that whole feud, as a young mark, but I loved that promo just because he name dropped us. I eventually rekindled my love for the Hitman after first seeing the Wrestling With Shadows documentary
