Abstractism and Surrealism tend to be my favorite because it leaves a lot of space for your own imagination to interpret the artistic meaning with realism and hyper-realism it's impressive but doesn't leave much imo to ponder on. The same reason I listed for liking more obscure art might be the same reason someone else hate it.

Same for me, I want to see creation, not reproduction of something that already exists...I see art as a glimpse of whatever's is the artist's mind, hopes, fears, etc...hyperealism is "only" technical abilities (not saying that that's not important, but for me it's more technique than art).

Now if that hyperealism is used to create something new, great...but if it's basically reproducing a picture, it doesn't really resonate with me. I'll say wow great execution, and move on.
