People hate the handling of GTA5 into an online only money grab, yet also shoot down a competitor staffed with members of the team upset with the handling of GTA5.

The next real competitor will have to find a way to integrate A.I. into all of the NPC's and trajectory of the plot, a true make your own adventure style game
If they can prove everyone gets a super customized version of the game based on that they can run the table, that's gotta be the next wave to make games more dynamic.
And could be the best way to combat people just watching streams of games and getting the content for free, nah nikka, you gonna make that purchase if you know it's gonna change drastically based on your gameplay
