Is it Law or IT?
Both. Check my legal careers posts in 6figs6certs.

from 2018
The basic explanation of my job is managing and protecting client/firm files, documents, electronic information, physical records intake and disposition, oversight of all aspects of the information workflow and lifecycle. Risk management and Compliance. I know it's a broad description but my day to day varies. This involves data transfers (secure Data Transfer and storage, archiving, monitoring), encryptions, data access, legal holds- the management of confidential, sensitive information in accordance with legal requirements or policies; ensure third party compliance with privacy and security requirements.

This is an example of a cert related to this specific aspect of my job on the Data Governance aspect:

Then there's the Technology part of the position. (.cont)

Networking is not the end all to the be all. Post 2009, the legal hiring model changed considerably circa the largest BigLaw lay-offs in history due to the Financial market implosion and the crisis. It took me 10 years to really find my footing and advance in the industry; that was in addition to navigating over to Legal Technology and InfoSec with a high specialization in Risk Analysis and Data Management over the past 2 years.

No. Not at all. Not specific to IT, but I had prior experience in corporate research, information security and records management from prior jobs that transferred to the job I have now. For IT, Everything that I learned, I learned on the job through training, cle, IT classes and required testing/certifications. Took courses as well through different programs on my own to maintain, as well.

But this was during the time that the finance/investment firms, banks were imploding (2010-) and stricter regulations were implemented against the banking industry (bear stearns collapse, Bank of America, AIG etc ,) Telecomm. mergers taking place (at&t, sprint, etc). Those industries could no longer afford legal fees/expenses leading to major law firm layoffs. The legal sector started turning to patent and i.p. Law with a focus on technology. The law firm took on more tech clients to remain competitive. So I think for me it was timing ; being at the right place at the right time as well.

I'm in Technology Law- IT Data Governance and Knowledge Management. The dumb fuk thinks that I'm in Litigation, Trial or Appellate law where they go to trial or do trial prep daily which is totally different from what i do. I hate Ignorant people like him who try to comment on shyt they don't know. He also thinks that a corporate lawyer would know the job titles and descriptions for government attorneys. I answered a question not exactly as asked and to him that eliminates my whole career trak.I can tell he never did anything professional or else he would sound more informed..
Most of the time I'm doing research, document reviews due diligence and data reviews/input. No programming -more on the legal analysis side.

1. Wildfires are natural to the topography and don't shut down whole regions. Just rich areas where white people live in the hills.

2. I haven't experienced a rolling blackout in my entire life. Grew up in the bay area. Spent last 11 years in LA.

Cali had 2 rolling blackouts in 20 years (2001 and 2019) in concentrated regions but for some reason idiots seem to eat this right wing rhetoric up. They want California to be Venezuela so bad.

i was moving around and didn't have time to say what i meant earlier, although i meant what i said in my op.

but the greater point is private companies are in charge of those pipelines and/or they're operating under a private sector/govt agreement.

THE SOUF INC. isn't in charge of anything in that industry and don't even know where the hell that pipeline is, so to say a geographic region needs "to get its shyt together" when something like happens would be like me saying the WEST COAST LLC. needs to get on its job to stop those rolling blackouts, mudslides due to greedy contractors building where they shouldn't, along with the fires. Whether you've personally experienced a blackout yet or not is immaterial; you know they're coming this summer along with the fires lol and you know they happen like clockwork

it's one thing to say shyt like that in jokes cause we all do it, but you were serious than a muthafukka and that shows a mental deficiency. there's books that'll help with that.

1. Local and State regulatory agencies are lacking in the south. This comes down to politics and who is in charge of protecting the livelihoods of their constituents. The constituents are partly to blame because they put people in power who allow companies to maximize profit over safety and service.

2. I want to know where you got your info about yearly blackouts in CA? Was that from a Facebook post.

3. Post info about whole regions of CA being shut down due to mudslides.

How does that get you away from working in teams?

Lemme clarify. I don't mind working in teams as a functional expert. I have an engineering bachelors. I was a senior engineer doing something that only one other person in a 70k company knew how to do. I left that career to get my MBA and even tho it pays well, I'm not a fan of strategy roles where I'm a part of a team with unclear roles and responsibilities. In my mind, being a cyber security expert meant that I could focus on one thing, do it well, and report out to others. But it was just a thought. I like the idea of owning something people don't understand and being given complete autonomy.
