this wave of dream pop influenced rnb has me on 12 :wow: I'm gonna put sampling and that cloud rap shyt on the burner for a minute till I learn how to compose from scratch and I wanna learn how to make these type of joints. brehs tell me what sounds I need, pads, vsts, etc etc, money ain a object I'll get it since I'm feeling this so much.

help me :blessed:

Also, if you have any (effects) Vsts that do tape stop make sure to fukk w/ that...also fukk w/ the arpeggios in the nexus/massive...layer those on top of each other with one of the TG (Gated) synths to get that trippy effect....and use filters on cloned patterns...like play notes in one pattern and then copypaste that to another one and only put the filter on the next one with the same notes...that's how you do those reflective ass drake parts in a beat.

You could do the track in any DAW. @producingfire and @Todd McPiff hit it on the head. Its taking straight squares and saws, and processing them, modulating them, side chaining compressors and gates, distortion, etc... It's all techniques, not plugin presets.

If you want to do music like this, you have to move away from preset surfing and start diving into real sound design. In that case, it doesn't matter which DAW or which VST plug in you use, its actually all about techniques for processing sounds.

This rabbit hole goes deep brehs :sas2:

these are all analog synth sounds. You could probably get a nice workstation which would have lots of sounds like this. You could make pretty much all these sounds with 3 osc in fl studio, so basically you could make these sounds with any synths

now i will say the mixes on these songs are incredible, so it will take a while to get a hang of mixing if you dont normally make stuff like this. Also you should get some edm drums, 909s are good for this, but the sounds that come with maschine are really nice as theyre much more edm focused than hip hop. You really should approach r&b these days with a edm mindset, its been like that for a while though. But also you need to have a very thorough understanding of effects like delay and reverb, those are crucial to making this "dreamy" sound

ill jus throw out some suggestions for vsts and which roles they can play

id get sylenth first and foremost, just using voices and detuning with a saw you can get tons of nice sounds

nexus covers all the basics, with the expansion packs you get tons of arps, pads, and natural instruments. There are also really nice synths sounds there, but honestly everyone uses nexus so you should know this

then for the freakier synths i use things like gladiator, electrax, albino (has lots of basic common synth sounds that you can really beef up), predator, theres lots of others but these are my favorites, also alchemy but a lot of people dont know how to get the best out of it.

Last thing i wanna say is the effects in most vst synths suck really hard. I strongly suggest getting quality effects vsts and using those instead, if you want to make your mixes sound better

I dont know much about production like this because tbh i hate it, but really you just need to learn how to mix, compose, and make sounds that work together
