His "spectacle" sucks and most of the times is completely incomprehensible. So no, he doesn't know what he's doing and he doesn't do it better than most. For further reference on how it should be done, I'll point you to the best movie of the year 2015.

I don't get the hate to be honest, yeah the transformers franchise was an abomination that never entertained me. But the guy still makes movies for red blooded heteros with propensity for high octane action in an age where the gay is in. That in itself deserves kudos. I will never forget how I felt when I watched the rock and badboys for the 1st time. He clearly has talent and knows his lane, for the most part are you not entertained?

Dude is on point on them car chases, pileups and explosions.
