Detroit Downtown seems cool but I wouldn’t buy there because it’s not stable. As in I want a place with good schools because that means the property maintains its value. I hear spotty things about Detroit schools as my aunt works in them.

yeah alot of thme are rough but the top 5( I named 3) are actually nationally ranked/recognized and send many kids to college, but I get it. You dont have get downtown exact but you can get nice neighborhoods on the west side off outer drive

Metro Detroit is diverse so it's not just black and white in the burbs, it's black, brown, olive, yellow, etc. Lots of Arabs, Jews, Indians, Asians, and Spanish speakers. If you stay in the northwest burbs it's diverse OR Canton(where everybody moves to)

Why are you moving here??? :dahell:

I’m tryna get out this muthafukka! :damn:

Stay outta Dearborn. Arabs are racist as shyt. Stay away from Chaldeans. Stay outta Grosse Pointe. Cacs racist there. Stay outta Detroit. Can say I’m being :mjpls: but it’s rough and the schools aren’t worth a damn.

If you wanna be around black people but near Detroit, I’d find a city on the outskirts of Detroit realistically. Harper Woods, Eastpointe, Roseville, Saint Clair Shores, Royal Oak…etc

Be wary of Ferndale. Cops are on some BS

I will say when it comes to names and prestige, if you want your kids to turn heads on their resumes then consider finding a way to get them into Grosse Pointe North or Grosse Pointe South high school

are you from the east side

I heard about Southfield Christian being the go-to private school for Black folks in Southfield. Is that true and is it good?
Yes that is true, although recently there have been some mixed reviews, mostly around them being too strict. I didn't suggest that school to OP because he was Muslim but it is still the best option in Southfield.

I was at downtown Detroit and it's really nice. Visited Dearborn, but heard things about the Arabs there. Visited Ann Arbor and Yspsilanti, really liked them a lot. Stayed in Taylor, walked around, felt like I was at home. I delayed the move because life got in the way but going ahead.

Lots of black pride in Detroit. People call Atlanta America's black mecca but for me it's Detroit. Never seen such an underrated city and state with so much heart and grit and soul despite the difficulties.

Yeah, my post is from someone perspective who’s lived here since forever and sick of it because of being here so long. Not to be negative or deterrent. Seems you like it here and that’s awesome. Definitely no shortage of black people here.

Winters can be rough and long. Spring, fall and summer are nice.

Can have some good times downtown Detroit. Know you’re Muslim so I’d imagine you’re not into casinos or bars. But you can find some good ones downtown. Hit the river walk up or belle isle for some nature or to be by the water. Hit up metro parks to be by the water, fishing, trails, parks for your kids, basketball…etc

Some good restaurants. Shake shack is good downtown. Food Exchange is nice for burgers and kool aid.

Southwest Detroit is the spot you wanna go to for some Latino/mexican culture for a change of pace

Tigers games in the summer are fun to go chill at with friends or family. Pistons games are lit even though we more than likely will lose :russ:

The Ford Drive in theater is fun to go watch movies at. The DIA is probably one of the best art museums in the world

Hall road has A LOT of shops and restaurants. Literally any store you can think of. Out in Clinton about 20 minutes north of Detroit.

As far as malls goes, hit up Somerset. Pro and heard Detroit rappers talk about it, but they have all the stores. High end stores too

Check out Monroe Street Midway for the kids downtown

School wise, I would stay out of Detroit. Detroit public schools have a long way to go and that’s just being honest. Suburbs is the way to go. I’d live on the outskirt cities of Detroit as well to be close. Your insurance will definitely skyrocket if your address is Detroit. Police don’t respond as quickly and the hospitals are meh. Take this from someone who was a firefighter in Detroit.

Detroit You bytch Ass nikka
I looked into Troy and it seems good.

I’m really particular about this issue because I’m from Texas and one of my first memories was being bullied in daycare in 80’s suburban Texas and the teachers refused to do anything and laughed at me while I was being bullied. My dad had to pull me out of that school and my parents had to actively find a non racist school in suburban Texas in the 80’s. I have a visual memory and recall all of this despite being 2-3 years old.

So I obviously don’t want my future kids to have a similar experience and where there are white people there’s opportunity for fukkery. And white people are populous in Michigan in the suburbs which is where most of the good schools are. So yes, you must be careful of white people in Detroit.
There's a huge gay community in Troy lol, but as far as black people and and possible harassment, you are pretty much good in ALL surrounding areas. It's black folks everywhere in South East Michigan. Theres no Detroit suburb where you won't see black people working all the stores, restaurants, malls, ect.

I'd say move to Warren, most affordable cribs are from 8 mile to 10 mile, you might be able to find some cribs around 100,000$. Past 10 mile you probably won't find anything under 200,000$. It's probably more or just as many black residents thru 8-10 mile, and still lots of black home owners past 10 mile and above.

Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills, Ypsilanti, Belleville, and maybe Canton

Southfield is ok but not what it use to be when I was coming up.

Oak Park is decent but basically an extention of Detroit.
