Me personally, a hot dog is a hot dog. A sandwich has two separate slices of bread with some typpe of other food between it.

Well thats not hard to believe. Its the same concept as a sanwich.
I wonder why when its beef people call it a burger but when its chicken, its always a chicken sandwich. Not a chicken burger

With a sandwich the bread is traditionally sliced through the middle horizontally, not the top. Also with sandwiches the bread is usually interchangeable, with a hot dog it's not, a bun is required at least in a formal sense. That's why it's not a sandwich.
