A waste of time would be leaving the situation if it could benefit you. You don't need to take anyone's money. If you are smart they will give it to you or at least help you get your own paper up which is even better for you in the long run. I know of plenty of women walking out of situations balling. There are plenty of quality men out here who don't have the money and status of a doctor singer lawyer or musician but still are college educated have a professional degree and work in a rewarding field to chose from they may not be at the top of the totem pole but they're realist every high up and certainly not at the bottom.
