The Amerikkkan Idol
The Amerikkkan Nightmare
80s = Worst Post-civil rights decade
Crack era, 80s fashion and hair, Reaganomics, Reagan himself, etc
only glimmer of light from that WOAT decade was the RnB. But thats not enough to make that decade look decent.
Dont forget
I was just in another thread on Bernie and people don't recognize the climate that led to that crime bill. Not excusing it, but that shyt didn't just magically appear out of nowhere.
People in the communities hardest hit by violent crime wanted that bill.
People need to look at the late 80s / early 90s annual murder numbers for places like NYC vs now.
I lived through that. I remember "Just say no". Its why when 20 somethings start saying this or that about a crime bill I ignore them because they don't understand what led to people of all backgrounds supporting it.
This is why I always to people who bring up 90's crime bills as a knock on liberal politicians who voted and supported them.
Breh, nikkas were off the hook in the '80s/early 90s. Drugs and violence was out of control.
You missed the point completely. That bill had community support, people were pushing for it. So 30 years later with 20/20 vision you can't start shytting on politicians who were around to support it.
This won't be a popular opinion, but the Crime Bill saved more people than it harmed. If you survived the 80's like some of us did, you'd understand.
Did it go overboard? Absolutely.
At that time, it was NOTHING to see whole families/neighborhoods destroyed by predators allowed to roam freely preying on their own people because law enforcement was understaffed, underarmed, and undertrained to deal with what was going on. Gangs, dealers, and straight criminals ran the streets, the businesses, and in many places, the local government.
There are people from my childhood/teens that I am glad will NEVER be free.
You are straight retarded
You are basically saying the same shyt I'm saying, but you so dumb, and argumentative you can't see it.
The difference is I'm saying the government knew how to fix it since they knew how to fix addiction, but they settled for the criminal justice system, ultimately ending in the form of the crime bill. Even by then crime started dropping anyway(1994), so the bill was just a money grab.
I've literally seen it all. You need an education in comprehension
Dude, ignore all those c00ns above, G.
I grew up in the '80s & '90s and these same nikkaz who hated Reagan & The Republicans for their crime bills that did EXACTLY THE SAME THING, kiss Bill Clinton's & Joe Biden's ass.
It was just an earlier example of the Black community being led astray be uncle tom ass Black leaders who carry water for the Democrats.
Ask yourself this,
Why didn't Joe Biden put Hunter Biden & his daughter who were on crack in prison?
Why were all of those politicians, including George W. Bush, who were using coke/crack subjected to the same level of harsh punishments that they were advocating for Black folks?
If they truly believed harsh punishment for drug usage was the best route, wouldn't they want to do what's best for themselves & their children?
Did they do that?
No.
Here's what happened.
The Republicans ran on getting tough on crime platform from Richard Nixon on into the '70s & '80s.
The Democrats were seen as soft on crime, so when Reagan put the clamps down in the '80s and went really hard after Len Bias died, because according to him the "Black community begged him to do it", the Democrats copied his ass.
Now, mind you, these same nikkaz have ZERO love for Ronald Reagan & George W. Bush. who as I said earlier DID THE SAME THING, but on a lower scale.
This is where it gets tricky.
The Democrats had a problem, how do they continue to get Black people to vote for them while at the same time getting "working class whites" to vote for them, so what they came up with was this thing called COUNTERSCHEDULING
Counterscheduling is when a political party purposely shyts on it's own loyal base to pander to another group less likely to vote for them.
So, that's why Bill Clinton went after Sistah Souljah, because he was showing working class Whites that he could put Black people in our place when he had to.
He also did the same thing with Welfare Reform.
Notice who he has standing next to him when he signs the bill
You think it's an accident he has two Black women standing next to him while he signals to Whites that he's getting tough on those "darkies on welfare"?
That basically was the entirety of Bill Clinton (& Barack Obama's) presidencies.
They would throw us some scraps (Bill Clinton playing the sax on Arsenio, Obama singing Al Green)
Then doubling back to signal to White people (Crime Bill, Welfare Reform, expanding AFRICOM, lecturing Black people about feeding our kids fried chicken for breakfast).
I do agree that some Black people were clamoring for the bill, but even Jesse Jackson came out against that shyt.
Bernie Sanders gave a speech on the Senate floor about how mass incarceration wasn't going to work
Plenty of people came out against the Clinton Crime Bill
There were protests by some Black groups at the Capitol at the time.
Don't let these old Democrat hoes pull that wool over your eyes.
