Police searching for suspect in Tenderloin attempted murder, robbery


The San Francisco Police Department is calling on the public to help identify a man connected to an attempted murder and robbery in the Tenderloin District on Friday.

The incident occurred blocks away from Union Square, near Cyril Magnin and Ellis streets, although no further details have been released.

Members of the public who may be able to identify the suspect are asked to call the SFPD anonymous tip line at (415)575-4444.

An attempted robbery in the Tenderloin district early Thursday morning left a victim with multiple stab wounds, police said.

The 39-year-old victim was approached from behind at 2:38 a.m. near O’Farrell and Leavenworth streets. He was stabbed with a knife twice in the torso during a struggle when the suspect tried to take his backpack by force.

The suspect, described as a 40-year-old man, then fled in a dark colored vehicle.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No arrests have been reported.
