As US-China trade tensions continue to escalate, Chinese refiners have cut their U.S. oil imports, while imports of Canadian crude have reached record highs
What happened: Imports of U.S. oil by China have plunged roughly 90% since 2023, falling from a peak of 29 million barrels per month to just 3 million, according to Vortexa Ltd. data, reported Bloomberg. In March, China imported 7.3 million barrels of crude from Canada's Vancouver port.
This figure is expected to rise even more this month. This shift follows the completion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX) in late 2023, which added 590,000 barrels per day of export capacity and gave Alberta's landlocked oil sands direct access to Asian markets.

Why it matters: China's shift to Canadian oil highlights the larger impact of the current trade conflict between the Donald Trumpadministration and Team Xi Jinping. For investors, the emergence of Canada as a key supplier to China signals a structural shift in North American oil fundamentals, with implications for companies such as Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Cenovus Energy Inc., and U.S. majors like Exxon Mobil Corp.

and Chevron Corp.

This move is also strategically significant for China's refineries, which gain from the comparatively inexpensive and dense oil available from Canada's oilsands. Wenran Jiang, president of the Canada-China Energy & Environment Forum, stated, "Given the trade war, it's unlikely for China to import more US oil."
Oil prices witnessed a rally on early Thursday, with Brent Crude Oil up 0.85%, now trading at $66.42 per barrel, and the WTI Futures up by 1.06%.

Orange idiot and friends really don't have a clue on the trickle down effect this is having on everything import related. Hes killing regular folks jobs.

Less containers coming in = less work for all involved including port workers, crane operators, truck/train pick ups, warehouse storage workers, etc. I have info first hand that people are being sent home because of canceled container shipments and there being less work overall. This shyt is bad bad.

Damn that Canada and China relationship about to get stronger thanks to Trump.I honestly feel bad for the Americans that didn’t want his ass in office. But for the ones that put him in it’s all you can eat humble pie.

The irony is the Trickle Down Economy folks seemingly don't know how trickle down economies work amongst other economic concepts like supply and demand. I'm never going to give the same reverence to the Ivy League anymore, because these dudes all "graduated" from the Ivy League.

@krassenstein
BREAKING: Fed Chair Jerome Powell just announced that Trump's tariffs are larger than anticipated and they may put the central bank in a challenging situation ā€œnot seen in decades.ā€

TRUMP DID THIS! Not Biden.

@tosino007
The Fed says they’re 'data-dependent,' but it feels like they’re just waiting for Trump to make the first move on policy. Is this the leadership we need for a stable economy?

3/11
@krassenstein
Trump is tanking the strong Economy that Biden left us with. Tariffs have not even impacted the economic data yet. Give it another month or two.

4/11
@Patriot_N_Chief
Good.

5/11
@krassenstein
Good? Why?

6/11
@Christos_Vet
Biden made everything more expensive in stores!

Groceries, eggs, literally everything went up under Biden.

Trump is working on fixing that mess caused by Biden while also working on a new system

7/11
@krassenstein
Cool story bro. Now back to reality. .

8/11
@AnthonyKrouse6
end the fed

9/11
@krassenstein
Good luck with that one. It would destroy our economy as we know it.

10/11
@ramseyxhassan
The Democrat Playbook:
1. Print trillions, balloon the debt, and fuel inflation, then duck responsibility.
2. Blame Trump for tackling the economic mess they left behind.
3. Exploit crises from their own failed policies to score political points.
4. Rinse, repeat, while the country pays the price.

11/11
@krassenstein
Trump spent just as much as Biden in his first term.

@ArtCandee
Fed Chair Jerome Powell is sounding the alarm about Donald Trump's tariffs as diplomatically as he can.

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act sent us into the Great Depression and was among the most catastrophic economic acts in history.

Wake up, folks!!!!!

STAGFLATION is right around the corner. Inflation with stagnant growth...
The US hasn't seen that since Jimmy Carter's administration.

@ArtCandee
We're past stagflation.

4/8
@Retrievals1
Powell just drop a thermo-nuclear on tariffs ...
ALL CAP RAGE TWEET IN ...3 ... 2 ...1

5/8
@ivanopanetti
Thanks to the Idiot in Chief!

Trump is steering the nation toward catastrophe. His record on the economy is about as good as Venezuela’s.

He's a self-serving, dishonest, morally bankrupt ego maniac who doesn't care about anything or anyone but his fame, bank account and he is hustling the US.

6/8
@Stochasticiti
You’re spot on, Art.

Powell’s warning isn’t abstract—history already ran this simulation. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act raised over 20,000 tariffs in the 1930s, triggering retaliations, slashing global trade by more than half, and deepening the Great Depression.

Trump’s proposed tariffs risk repeating that chaos—punishing American consumers, squeezing supply chains, and inflating prices under the illusion of ā€œstrength.ā€ It’s not protectionism—it’s economic sabotage dressed in nationalism.

Wake up, or we’ll pay for dĆ©jĆ  vu in dollars and jobs.

Who am I kidding; get ready for it!!!

7/8
@xstreetnews
He is trying to tell the world how incompetent and dangerous Trump is! We are tiered people.. it’s not just about US anymore! The entire world is tiered about the Nazi tactics and corruption ongoing on daily bases now

8/8
@JudgeyFlatbeard
someone tell Trump that Tariffs are WOKE.

Hard to take this serious from an Asian woman, these Asians been talking big shyt lately and they got an agenda. A lot of what was said is true though. I just think this idea about bringing back factories completely ignores automation. We need to rebuild the infrastructure around global warming and technology. It’s such an easy fix but republicans can’t admit that global warming exist so nothing gets built.

Their talking big shyt now because they see the way the wind is blowing for the usa.

Hell if we had an African descent country at that level we would be talking big shyt too :wow:

If you think the economy is in bad shape now due to uncertainty, wait till the day Powell is replaced or his term is up?
