Right? I'm annoyed that people are trying to paint this as if Trump is trying to seem less of a racist by firing a well known racist staff. There is no going back on the debacle he did Saturday and then double e down on Monday. He made it VERY clear that he himself sympathizes with white nationalist and it was not the influence of those around him. He can never erase that. He made a firm and clear line in the sand.
I don't know where Trump is going. He's pissed off both sides in just one week.
I can see where my saying that it's part of an effort to "moderate" the administration can seem way off base. And I agree that for most people it is definitely way beyond that point. But they have made these kinds of mis calculations many times before. Again everything they ever do is designed just to give them enough breathing space to last another few days in the media cycle. I think the larger point still stands and that this is more of a tactical effort to 1) stop the endless number of stories talking about how Bannon/Trump are at odds within the White House 2) give Bannon flexibility to do his own thing (and thus insulate the WH from having to answer for his comments) and 3) relieve White House/Trump of any pressure he is receiving from Gen. Kelly/McMaster to get rid of Bannon.
My guess is that over the next couple weeks Bannon will be out here speaking to his followers and basically telling them he fell on the sword "for the greater good of our movement" blah blah blah and that "Trump is our only hope" blah blah blah, and all of the alt right personalities that may have seemingly turned on Trump today will be right back in the fold.
Trump is a treasonous crook but he's actually not very intelligent (or maybe no longer if he is actually sick).
Bannon is fukking dangerous because he's NOT stupid. He is far and away the most intelligent person on the Russian/White Nationalist side. Look at his biography, naval officer, Georgetown, Harvard, Goldman Sachs to Hollywood, makes money in multiple industries etc. Even after Trump is gone, Bannon will still be around.
Let the GOP civil war begin.
