I'm not going to lie. I didn't see the curveball with this DEI initiative. I don't agree but understand the notion of not placing emphasis on race, sex, etc. However, cases like the Tuskegee Airman is American History, not DEI. Just like the lipstick line Target dropped that was black owned. They could have kept the product on the shelves and removed the black owned signs. Trump and his conservative machine pulled a pretty slick chess move.

What is the relevance of these things to DEI initiatives? These weren’t just one or two people engaging in this behavior. In the case of the frat apparently it’s a longtime tradition. And given their blatant racism potentially able to just chuck black candidates off top. What I'm saying is, the tech oligarchs don't control the entire internet. It's too vast and has too many people using different platforms to communicate.

People here assume that the chinese don't know what's going on in america because of "the great firewall" or whatever, but they have access to the outside world through VPNs and physical travel. When they raided Osama Bin Ladens compound, they found hard drives full of books, movies, images, etc.

Money is their weapon, but too much money clouds ones judgment. People can go on various websites to find pdfs and ebooks of whatever they can't get on Amazon. They also have access to local libraries to who host digital copies for download. People can also just go to local bookstores which have been growing.

People don't have to use Twitter when they can use mastodon or bluesky. They don't have to use Facebook, many young people are leaving the platform. These guys don't understand that if information wants to flow, it will. Even when all the news networks are propaganda, people can use subscriptions to worker owned publications.

This is essentially like newspaper barons trying to suppress radio news. People are what make these companies what they are, and if the people running them become too repulsive and the platform decays and engages in censorship, they'll take their attention, data, and money elsewhere.

Decentralized and open source is what built these platforms, and its what new platforms will be built on. These idiots are firing thousands of technologically literate people in exchange for AI.
