They also did it for Alice in Chains. The got a breh to sing. He sounds enough like Layne.

It can work if the front man is just the singer.
The singer may sound like the artist but they don’t have the charisma or showmanship of the artist they’re replacing.

They tried using Terrence Trent D’Arby to replace Michael Hutchence of INXS, and as talented as he is as a solo artist, he just wasn’t a good fit for the the band.

It’s more than just singing, it’s the chemistry of the overall band.

They tried to do the same thing with Queen and INXS. You simply can’t replace the frontman. Good luck to them though. :francis:

What about Van Halen when Sammy replaced David? Or Pink Floyd when Roger took the lead after Syd went bonkers?

Well for one, comparing bands in transition to legacy acts are not the same thing. Queen, Linkin Park and INXS would qualify as such.

When Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd, they were only two albums in and had barely reached their stride. Easy to replace the lead singer when the band is still finding their identity.

Van Halen were at their commercial peak in 1985. There are exceptions but generally most people prefer David Lee Roth.

AC/DC are the only example I can think of where a band were able to replace their lead singer and propel to new heights. But Brian Johnson is an exceptional frontman.

TL/DR: impossible to replace front men of legacy acts as opposed to bands in transition/ not yet peaked.

I hear you but I will say this. The Sammy vs David debate has always been a see saw like Coke vs Pepsi. You tried it tho. And that first Pink Floyd album was a classic. It took awhile for PF to get their footing after Syd. It almost felt as if they wouldn't be able to do it without Syd but they eventually did.

I was just responding to you saying the frontman can't be replaced. I mention VH and PF and you put extras on it after the fact. LOL.

:picard: I just found out a few days ago that Linkin Park has a new female lead singer & I was wondering WTF happened to the original male lead singer. I totally missed the news about him committing suicide back in 2017 & just found about it now seeing this thread.
