I came in here just to post this. This doesn't need to be stickied. I wouldn't have known Durk had a brother if he hadn't gotten killed.

The verse above, in the aftermath of his brothers death is just.
Like how are you able to go back and listen to your OWN music after your brother's death, hear verses like this, and hold it together?
One of the reasons I fw Durk is he literally pulls shyt from real street life he been through and makes relatable, dope melodies out of it. Any nikka who's been through some of the same struggles (self-righteous or not) should be able to appreciate his artistry, even if you don't glorify it. So much of his shyt is pain music, where you can tell his way of coping with the traumas he's both caused and experienced is to release it via the musical process.
With that being said, a lot of his shyt can be applied to himself, (even disses to his opps) and some of his shyt even comes off as tragically prophetic. I can't remember another rapper in recent memory who's suffered such tragic losses at the peak of his success. Kanye maybe?
I don't live vicariously through nikkas, because I've lived that life myself, and know the consequences ain't nothing nice. But imagine being a background rapper in 2011, and maybe 3rd in line behind Chief Keef and Lil' Reese, to grind for ten years, finally make it to the top of the game in 2021, but be fighting an attempted murder while having a #1 album under your belt in December, dropping a #1 Deluxe a month later, then another #1 with the hottest rapper in the game early that same summer.
Best friend getting bodied a few months prior, blood brother getting bodied a few days ago, losing a manager and a cousin in the process, a few homies to addiction and street beefs you perpetuate, and constantly looking over your shoulder, sending hits, battling addiction, likely PTSD and depression, and feeling (or being) responsible for some of the deaths of your own family and friends.
Even with the successes he's seen, it's not an enviable position to be in at all. I wouldn't want those demons for any amount of money. And the odds say that a nikka like Durk won't make it to old age before ending up either dead or on a long-term bid. So I enjoy the music for what it is. Cautionary tales, songs that give me flashbacks, mood music, workout music, and shyt I can vibe out to when I need something relatable to listen to. You holier-than-thou cats might not respect or appreciate it at all, but at the end of the day, it's his reality and his artistic expression. Durk's music is a lot of things, for better or for worse...
But one thing you CAN'T say that it is, is inauthentic.

don’t know if he feels them deaths are on him or not tho. Cause definitely feel a lot of those people woulda got killed anyway.
and when nuskie got killed durk wasn’t even really dissing the opps heavy at the time by name. Even tho the rest of his gang was.
I remember when the video of Ls dropped and he had just got out jail and he had just cut his locks. Didn’t think he would be where he’s at now. And crazy he improved so much, and I know depression and everything is hitting him hard man. All the success you got, you can’t really enjoy cause the people you love are all gone.
I don’t even understand how he still smiles. I wouldn’t be able to take it. shyt would drive crazy and I would be putting hits on nikkaz moms and whole family cause I wouldn’t wanna live no more.
