For years whenever baseball deals come up, I've always shyt on Mike Trout for doing the owners a favor and not hitting the open market. He should have got ~$500m and opened the market up. Shohei wasn't going out like a sucker.

Trout doing what he did fukked up the money for dudes like Harper, Machado, and had salaries basically stalling out.

Didn't they go to Trout with like multiple yrs on his deal left? He started to fall off as soon as he signed that deal.

Oh wow. $680 million deferred at 0% interest starting in 2034, this will get revised by MLB for future transactions.

Hell naw, there is a reason that this is legal and you never see it. Ohtani is a once in a lifetime player and he has enough annual income from outside of baseball to be able to do this. I said in another post that this is just the beginning, he wants to win and he wants to win now, his entire time with the team won’t even be an issue when it comes to salary so the Dodgers have all the money to play with for the next ten seasons AND they can still keep capital in the cut for each oncoming season.
