He's pretty much a nemesis to daredevil so I'm sure he'll be a villain to daredevil to start. Pretty much how Elektra is.

there was nothing sympathetic about his character in that. can you read? If he can't draw the audience into the anguish at the loss of his family then the sole motive behind the inception of the punisher is lost. He'll basically be Jason vorhees with an uzi, a killing machine with no motive. Fun for a 90 min flick, 13 hour series? No thx

In a lot of Punisher stories it's suggested that his family's murder is just the catalyst and not the cause for him becoming a mass murdering vigilante, he merely waited for an excuse to continue the war that he couldn't let go.
