the people who operate these eating contests started a league, but part of the deal was you could only work for them. Kobayashi didn't sign because the pay was horrible.
the following year he pulls up to watch and when people seen it was him they were egging him on to join and he went on stage to pose. George Shea (top hat guy) got him arrested and after that they washed their hands of him.
For a while after that, he would do his own contest somewhere else at the same time
They eased up on the eaters' side hustles once all their endorsements got washed up since Kobayashi wasn't there anymore (before, a YouTube channel like the one Badlands Chugs got, he wouldn't be able to monetize off it).
The 30 for 30 on Kobayashi/Hot Dog Contest was really good.
