It's because they want the land. It's really that simple and they've already said this I don't know how many times at this point.
They can bomb literally anything and just say "they're using human shields" its an unassailable talking point.

But here's the thing: they're not stopping at the west Bank and Gaza strip. They're going to Lebanon, they're going to Syria, they're going to Jordan. And what will the justification be? "Hamas was hiding within those refugees and is trying to radicalize these countries. We have to stop them and it just so happens that we are moving here too. Our soldiers have families and are mostly civilians what did you expect us to do? Don't they have a right to house their families?!"
