I agree with your overall position that it's shady for women who were supposedly raped to not go to the police but then come out decades later against the supposed rapist. But under the law, settlements are encouraged and viewed as an alternate means of resolution with wasting the court's time, etc. That's why negotiating/settling isn't indicative of guilt. Courts prefer that the parties work it out for themselves.

That's all I'm getting at in regards to that.
