Coach Bill Belichick noted how Cooks’ speed helps draw those penalties.
“He’s got a lot of speed, and he’s quick, too; he’s very quick to get by those corners at the intermediate level, in that 12- to 14-yard area,” Belichick said in his weekly interview on sports radio WEEI. “He runs a lot of comebacks and plays like that, caught two or three of those out there -- first on Bouye, and then later when they moved Ramsey over on him.
“I think [offensive coordinator] Josh [McDaniels] and Tom [Brady] did a good job of having the complementary route -- it wasn’t a double move, but it was kind of a little bit of a hesitation, and he ran by him, and Ramsey got him pretty good [with pass interference]. And they got him good [with pass interference] in the second quarter on the go route where Bouye pushed him out of bounds. His speed is definitely a factor out there.”
If the Eagles’ disruptive pass rush is held in check, Cooks could be primed to have a similar big game in the Super Bowl, as the Eagles started 2016 seventh-round pick Jalen Mills and trade acquisition Ronald Darby at cornerback in the NFC Championship Game.

“His talent is undeniable. I think you see that on the football field. But what was really impressed me the most about Brandin is his character. He’s a man of God. He’s a humble man,” said special-teams captain Matthew Slater, whose locker is next to Cooks'. “He comes in here and works like he’s an undrafted free agent. He’s a first-round pick [from 2014]. You really appreciate that, team-first guys that come in and grind every day. When he goes out and performs the way he did [Sunday], it doesn’t just happen. It’s something he worked for all season long.”
Fiery on the sideline, Brandin Cooks has earned teammates' respect
Game changing strip sack next week. Calling it right nowPatriots head coach Bill Belichick raved about Harrison on Wednesday morning in a news conference. The linebacker made an immediate impact with the Patriots, recording two sacks five days after being signed prior to Week 17. “James has been great, really professional, works hard,” Belichick said.
“There are a lot of things that we do that are different from what he’s done in the past, but he’s adjusted very quickly. I give him a lot of credit for that and has tried to learn and do everything that we’ve asked him to do to the very best of his ability. You can’t ask for any more than that. … “He’s given us a really solid level of play, but every play he’s into it, whether he’s in the game, in practice, on the field, or on the sideline, getting the call, mentally processing the play, meetings, film, walkthroughs, all of those things. This guy is a professional. He’s into football. He’s into his job and wants to do it well. I 100 percent totally respect that. That’s what you want from everybody.”
