Why didn't they just make it mandatory that every player on the team be vaccinated or else lose out on a spot? Why even take that gamble of bringing an unvaccinated person in knowing that Tokyo was already dealing with an increase in cases as well?

You can still catch COVID-19 even if you're vaccinated though (look at CP3), so why take the chance of bringing someone in that wasn't?

Or you could ask the players union as well since they are over play vaccinations and would whine and complain if the idea was even broached of mandatory vaccinations for Olympic participation.
