IBO strawweight champion Hekkie Budler will fight Hugo Verchelli from Argentina on November 9.
The South African could be in line to challenge for the WBA title if he wins the fight at Emperors Palace, near Johannesburg.
IBO super-middleweight champion Tommy Oosthuizen will be in action in one of the other fights on the bill, defending his belt against Ezequiel Maderna, also from Argentina.
Promoter Rodney Berman said on Monday the winner of the bout between Budler and Verchelli may get an opportunity to challenge Japan's Ryo Miyazaki for the WBA belt.
The 24-year-old Verchelli is rated ninth by the IBF, tenth by the WBC and eleventh by the WBA. Eight of his 12 professional fights have been against three of his countrymen.
His only defeat was against Elias David Coronet, whom he has beaten three times. He has also beaten both Fabian Hernan Claro and Fernando David Alaniz twice.
His only victory against one of the top 50 strawweights on the IBO’s rankings list was against another Argentinian, Daniel Mendoza.
Budler's trainer, Colin Nathan, said on Monday Verchelli was highly rated in Argentina and should not be underrated. "You don't get recognition from the IBF, the WBC and the WBA for no good reason.
"We are preparing for a dangerous opponent. We are taking no chances. We don’t want to slip up before we get a chance to fight for the WBA crown."
Unlike Budler, who is now widely recognised as one of the top strawweights in the world, Oosthuizen has to repait his reputation when he defends his title against Maderna.
"Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen drew in his most recent fight, against Mexican-American Brandon Gonzales. "Everybody is entitled to have a bad fight and the fans will see a different Oosthuizen gainst Maderna," trainer Harold Volbrecht said.
